You didn’t really expect the season to start anywhere else than high in the Italian snow sure resort of Livigno, did you? The locals say this is best week of the whole season to ski here, as the crisp cold winter has usually brought more than enough snow by this time of year, yet the ski runs are still surprisingly uncrowded and lift queues are completely unheard of. Max Ski has begun the season here for the past 6 years and with over 110kms of pistes available here and with skiing up to 3000 metres this is millionaires skiing at its very best.

There cannot be a better value holiday to be found all season and the Bellavista is the best place to stay in Livigno, with the accommodation on a room only and self catering basis. The rooms and apartments are clean and of a good standard and the food in the restaurant and bar is second to none. Add to that the wonderful Bacchus pub with its great friendly atmosphere, and the fabulous hospitality of Fabiano Lazzeri and his family, then all the ingredients are here for a really good holiday.

Livigno itself is a great place to sample some lively après ski at the bottom of the slopes, and also because of its tax free status an excellent place to pick up some pre Christmas bargains in its many designer shops in its car free centre. Night skiing, ice skating and bowling are also available as extra evening entertainments, and a day out skiing at St Moritz is easily arranged.

Flights are available from many regional airports including Liverpool, Newcastle, East Midlands and Stansted. The discounted price is £319 for Adults and an unbeatable £129 for Children. This price includes flights, transfers and accommodation in resort. The ski pass prices for the 2008/9 season have not been released yet, and will appear here when available. Ski/Boot hire will be £49, and a Lessons package will be £70. The return is on 14th December.

Livignos early season snow record is second to none and the last few years have found magnificent conditions on the slopes with fresh snow falling throughout the week. Snow depths for this week in 2007 were 113 cms on the upper slopes and 35 cms on the lower slopes, although last seasons depths were far deeper than this.
